Today I was asked if I knew any places that had lychees for sale as apparently many store were selling them for $6 a pound which is crazy expensive. So I went shopping and sure enough I found some that were selling for $3.48 a pound which isn’t too bad. But right underneath it there were some longans available priced a $1.98 a pound. Very good deal I thought. The lychees are generally better in my opinion since they are bigger and sweeter. But in many ways the texture and taste between the two is similar, I think. Kind of like eating potato chips or potato crisps.
I brought this to the attention of the person that requested for the lychees and sure enough even they were being swayed to just get the longan. Do you usually flip your purchasing intentions like this based on the deals that are available? I do it all the time if I am not absolutely set in something specific per se as it’s an important part to being frugal where you shop based on what is on sale when you can.
Substitutions like these for products that are similar is not too bad of a compromise either as it’s not like you are changing your purchase to say broccoli or something.
