Self Limitations Oversight 100,000 Step Walk Example

This was kind of a good thing to think about when it comes to finding and working with talent as many times people assume because they can or can’t do something that it must be impossible for anyone else to do so. That severely limits your ability in finding people for a role as you have pretty much closed off all potential applicants.

How this got me thinking about this topic was a fun example. I do play a game called Pokémon Go at times when I am walking for fun and recently, they decided to increase the levels in the game and apparently at one stage people need to travel 200km. Quite a distance if you are walking. However, apparently some people have completed that in two days which is getting a lot of influencers to say the person is creating.

There was one example where a person who focused on the game called “The Trainer Club” was essentially implying how anyone who finished that in 48 hours must be cheating and he referenced his own record to validate that. From what I gather, it showed there was a week where he walked so much that he accumulated about 160km. That’s his proof to sat 200km is impossible.

So, I decided to reply to him showing how I actually walked over 93km a day before for something unrelated to the game using my google fit screenshot. Therefore, it’s not entirely impossible. He doubled down though posting quote “93km in a day is HIGHLY unlikely legit”. I then posted a video I made where I documented the whole walk which has multiple app stats such as GPS data and paths walked. As well as a time lapse of the walk. Not surprisingly, no response.

Like there, imagine if he was trying to recruit talent. He would have probably looked at a person like me and say “fake, next”. Whereas someone open minded would probably be curious in investigating more if the goal was to find someone that could walk a lot. It’s an important trait to have as even the most basic managers know it’s about finding and empowering talent where that means working with people who can excel in areas that you may lack the skill in. Don’t be closed minded based on your personal limitations.
