Usually when someone who is recognizable as a public figure makes some kind of blunder that will cause people to perceive them negatively, they would try and initiate some form of damage control. Many opt to use PR firms to do this as an example. But in many cases I read how people simply close or place all their accounts as private to prevent further scrutiny.
I always wonder if that is a good business reaction as many people would see that as a sign of admittance to whatever the allegation is and at the same time it can be like closing up shop over some kind of disagreement. At most, I would think the neutral thing to do would be to say not acknowledge it if it is simply gossip material. It’s a different story if it was something criminal where the evidence is so damning that the person has no choice to leave which many executives have done when it comes to scandals as an example. But even there one usually addresses it in some form versus simply trying to disappear.
Especially for people who have a lot of clout in an industry, if you don’t say something or address the issues it will pretty much follow them everywhere. Better sooner than later as they say.
