Loblaws Bread Price Fixing Scheme With A $25 Gift Card To Say Sorry Thought

loblaws price fixign scheme

There was news today that a large grocery chain here in Canada has essentially been colluding with companies to fix the prices of bread where as a result consumers have been over paying for years. It comers to a shock to a lot of people and it makes you wonder how the company would be punished. Apparently their answer to this was to offer every customer the option to register for a $25 gift card. They are expecting millions of people to do so.

As stated on its site at Loblaws.ca it says the following:

“Loblaw discovered that Canadians were overcharged for the cost of some packaged bread products in our stores and other grocery stores across Canada. In response, we’re offering eligible customers a $25 Loblaw Card, which can be used to purchase items sold in our grocery stores across Canada. Registration for the Loblaw Card Program will open on January 8, 2018. Please check back then.“

I have to admit that it sounds a bit too odd that the company only saw this problem now per se and it makes me wonder if this $25 gift card would truly win the back the trust of the shoppers. For most I would imagine they are wondering what else could be like that price wise. Generally speaking I am not surprised though which is why I am often more than happy to try and find the best deals even if it means using a ton of coupons at the grocery store. Either way you can get a free $25 gift card I suppose while they sort out this mess.
