I was talking to a business owner today that was apparently not attracting enough business due to various circumstances. As a result, it seemed like his new strategy was to introduce a whole line up of new services to the business. Basically, it is a husband and wife business who run a salon/haircut business. Because they are not bringing in as much business as they like it looks like they have been continually introducing new services such as facials, pedicures and now even piercing.
I was even saying to them how I thought maybe they should try to increase the customer base for their primary services by doing things such as advertising instead. I personally think the only time you should start going crazy like this in introducing new offerings is if you have decided to completely change the foundation of your business or that you are doing so well that you can afford to test out new offerings.
Basically, either you are getting a very negative response where you need immediate change or you have the customer base to try new things. Other than that, I would say it is more important to focus on your existing marketing strategies to attract more people to what you currently offer.
