This was kind of shocking today as I had to phone my Internet provider to ask about a billing and the person who answered the phone sounded like he had a cold. You could constantly hear the person sniffling and as a result seemed to try and rush through things at times. Granted the person is not actually in-front of any customers so there is no fear of the person spreading germs as an example. But it definitely affected the person in doing their job to the best of their ability.
This is one of those things where I am sure working remotely offers more flexibility to not having to look or sound your best physically in interacting with people who won’t be seeing you anyways. But when it is painfully obvious that someone is under the weather it’s probably a good idea to call it a sick day as usual. I don’t think that’s a good representation for the company as well.
Working remotely should be more about convenience rather than bypassing basic health and wellness factors in my opinion.
