Expecting Customers To Pay For Accidents or Not

You often heard the expression on how if you break it you buy it when it comes to people handling something that is worth a lot of money. For example, evaluating if you want to buy a glass cup only to drop it in which you are the expected to pay for it. Well today while in the supermarket a lady appeared to be debating if she wanted to buy some kind of drink in a glass bottle and she happened to drop it. As expected, the staff went over to clean up the mess and the lady immediately mentioned how she was sorry and will pay for it. The employee though said that it was okay since it was an accident.

That’s interesting to think about on how if someone stole the item and you caught them you would expect to be compensated. But I suppose here businesses can write it off and hope to show the customers that they care. I had this happen once before where when I went to a fast-food restaurant in the US I was filling up my drink and the tray holding the fries and burger fell. Immediately the customer told me not to worry about it as they’ll give me a new one. Sure enough, they did at no cost.

Like there, I was fully willing to accept the loss. But I guess for a business they want to show a bit of compassion in hopes that people don’t see them as a corporation that only values money. I would say it works too.
