Intuit GoPayment

Friday, October 5th, 2012 by

For the past few days I have been receiving this e-mail that looked shady. Essentially, it seems like there is a company that is targeting people who use Intuit products where they then attempt to get people’s user data. This is the e-mail I got:

Salvation Army Tsunami Spam

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011 by

Guess this was bound to happen. As a result of that earthquake in Japan it seems like somebody is trying to get people to donate money for what seems to be a charitable cause. In this case, the e-mail advertises itself as from the Salvation Army.

Just looking at the sender e-mail makes me think it is a phoney. So far any of you that are even considering handing out your hard earned dollar to a sketchy message like this you should look the other way I say. Here is a copy of the e-mail:

Reputation Through Association

Saturday, February 26th, 2011 by

So today I received an e-mail from a company that was trying to get businesses to try a demo of their product. As an incentive they planned to give people that participated quite a bit of money in the form of a giftcard. The funny thing was I never heard of the company before. However, in the body message of the e-mail was a link on where you could register to try out its product. In that link it actually showed exactly which lead generation company was selling my information that the business used to solicit me.

I was just thinking how much bad publicity that must give the company for not only selling information like that, but if the company that used the list turns out to be bad then people will automatically put it in the same negative light. I suppose in that sense you really have to think about how doing business with people will affect you in that sense as it’s not always just about making the dollar right there and then.

Auto Generated Product And Service Reviews

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010 by

I guess like most people who run a site they have to deal with a gargantuan amount of spam. While browsing through my list for this blog it was interesting to see that one spam in particular was a review of sort for Yahoo! Web hosting it seems. It basically had generic praises as if it was someone that used the service and was praising it.

I am usually one of those people who heavily rely on user reviews too when it comes to making a purchasing decision on various products and services. Examples like these sure make you wonder how many of them are just robot generated reviews. I must admit though that these types of things probably generate companies a lot of business.

Seeing one product with like five highly praised user reviews versus one that has none is usually enough to sway most people. Whether or not it’s the actual company doing it is a mystery of course too.
