Cashing In US Cheques Is Like A Stock Game

Thursday, October 1st, 2009 by

So I got a Google Adsense cheque in the mail today for the amount of $209.12. As usual, it is in US funds and since the Canadian dollar is lower that means I should technically get more. The thing is, over the past few months the dollar has been going up and down so quickly where cashing these cheques at the right day could mean gaining or losing a few extra dollars.

It might not seem like much, but it does add up and is one of those things that it is good to develop a habit for I’d say. But as usual, for the sake of number tracking I am just going to tally up the total based on the figure on the written cheque. It looks like I finally broke the $1000 mark with the web publishing category. Not extraordinary I’d say, but again it shows that if you just do it things can add up.

Now whether or not I really want to think of ways to make it like a full time type of operation is up for debate. Though again my intent was to try and find as many different things to do as possible.

Stock Investment: $800
Web Publishing: $1095.67
Million Dollar Term: $100
Affiliate Sales: $91.01
Free Money and Credits: $100
Loose Change Savings: $209.23
Selling Items: $55.64

Total: $2451.55

A Different Color Google Adsense Cheque

Monday, December 1st, 2008 by

I got this Google Adsense cheque in the mail today and it was kind of interesting that it was in a different color. Normally they are in a green and white tone style and this time it looks like it has been changed to more of a brown theme as you can see here:

It took awhile longer to get this as I was experimenting a bit with different CPC programs to see which one generated the best results. For one reason or another Adsense seems to do better. A good thing about this payment too is how the Canadian dollar is below the US dollar again as you all know and as a result this cheque for $100.19 is actually going to translate to more funds once it is converted to Canadian funds.

But as usual, for simplicity I will just tally it up as is on the cheque in regards to the total so far:

Stock Investment: $800
Web Publishing: $601.37
Million Dollar Term: $100
Affiliate Sales: $91.01
Free Money and Credits: $100
Loose Change Savings: $209.23

Total: $1901.61

So just about $98.39 before I hit $2000. Maybe I’ll get a surprised payment somewhere before the end of the year.

Web Publishing Income

Now since I’m starting with $0 the fist thing that comes to mind for most people is to probably say find a job where you will trade your time and expertise for money. While I won’t rule out the possibility of doing some simple small stuff in the future for the sake of this test, I usually prefer to find ways on how one can generate an income even if they are not there.

For myself, the first thing I thought about is web publishing since it is one of the things that I am very familiar with. In general, people make money by either selling advertisements on their website or through what is known as affiliate marketing where a site owner can get a referral bonus by helping a company to sell its products or services. Due to the subject matter of this blog, I get requests all the time from people who are interested in purchasing some kind of an ad space for their credit card offers or debt reduction programs as an example. Just try to picture how much money making spam comments I get all the time too.

If you have been one of my readers for awhile I guess you have noticed that there are small advertisements at the end of each post which are provided by Google. I personally display it as a way to offset any costs in maintaining this blog as oppose to focusing on trying to make a lot of money from it since that wasn’t my intent. Come to think of it, this is probably going to be the first form of income that I will receive for this journey.

There are a lot of things that I can do, but at the same time I don’t want it to be too intrusive with the content. Maybe I’ll try experimenting a bit with certain web publishing programs or even start to take some offers more seriously (That’s not an invitation for get rich quick offers either). Hopefully I can find other ways that require little or no capital as this route feels a bit too safe for me personally since I am comfortable with it. You have to start somewhere I suppose and you may as well do something that you know a lot about.
