The Apprentice Season Ten – Episode 13 Finale

Thursday, December 9th, 2010 by

The episode continued right off from last week with all those dilemmas each team had. Surprisingly, everything appeared to have been handled pretty swiftly. For example, Clint had the debacle where items like the posters that were printed had Liza Minnelli’s name spelled wrong. However, he calmly made a phone call to the printer and handled everything. Likewise, in Brandy’s situation she had issues such as the photographer going to the wrong location and in the end he simply got to the correct place quickly.

Most of the potential disaster moment seemed to have come from Brandy’s side such as when Kathy Griffin arrived to make a speech to the guests it appeared that everyone was already gone as the announcer mentioned that the tournament was starting. However, they recovered by having Kathy go around and speaking to the players personally.

For Clint’s side he just seemed to have everything organized very well. It was so good to the point that he even went to the golf tournament area to see what was going on in Brandy’s side. There were only a few minor moments whre it seemed like the task was going sour for Clint’s side such as when it came to serving the buffet line at times the line appeared to be enormous and so they had to try and hustle people through it quickly. As well, in introducing Liza Minnelli at first it appeared that many people were still getting their food and so they weren’t paying attention to what Clint had to say on stage.

Overall there was not very much happening in terms of turns and twists for what was the final episode I thought. In the boardroom there were some comments about their performances. I thought the most interesting one was from Brandy’s team where as you may remember last time Liza decided to buy golf clubs instead of gift certificates as the main prizes for the golf tournament winners. The concern was that the guests were so wealthy that they wouldn’t want inexpensive gold clubs. Sure enough, there was a fact that the winners didn’t even take them even though they won it.

For Clint there seemed to be criticism about his Texan accent as he would often use phrases like “y’all” which they took note of whenever he communicated with people. Essentially, they weren’t sure if he was doing it to try and let people know he was from Texas or if he just naturally talks that way. In the end, he said that is just the way he talks.

Of course, Trump asked all of the candidates who they think he should choose as the winner. The majority appeared to pick Brandy over Clint. There were some interesting remarks such as from Liza where she admits she tried to get rid of Brandy but was not successful in doing so. Because of things like that she had a lot of respect for her.

When Trump asked Clint to describe why he is better it sounded like a repeat of before where he tried to highlight himself as a CEO in box as a result of his experience. Brandy had a more interesting answer where she emphasized that Trumps team is already well off. However, Brandy mentioned that there is a new generation coming up and that the Trump brand could learn from her in finding ways to cater to that audience. Trump appeared to really like that answer. In the end, Clint was fired which meant Brandy was the winner.

The decision was a little surprising as task wise and all Clint just seemed stronger overall and is one of those ready now type of person to handle a big role. I suppose it really came down to the factor that Trump probably has a gazillion Clint type of people in the organization and so Brandy is like a fresh mind to help the organization grow.
Show wise this finale was pretty underwhelming. I guess they are losing steam in terms of ideas. I believe this is the first time there wasn’t even a live boardroom session as well for a finale. Till next time.

The Apprentice Season Ten – Episode 12

As expected the episode continued off from last week where another person was going to be fired where it would narrow it down to the final two. The remaining thus far was Clint, Brandy and Liza. As usual Trump asked each person who they felt was the strongest and weakest player. Not surprisingly, both of the women said Clint was the strongest while Liza was pointed out as the weakest.

For the most part Clint and Brandy mentioned that they should say due to their educational backgrounds and accomplishments. Liza had a semi interesting take where she emphasized that the show was about giving people a chance to get back on their feet due to the economy. With that she tried to highlight that against so many odds she is there in the final three and in a way is a symbolism of hope for everyone that is like herself.

Trump then began to say that he was able to see things in her that no one else seemed to have throughout the show as everyone has consistently picked on her. Since she is sitting there and not others speaks volume of her success for example. However, despite those praises he mentioned that she needs to learn how to get along with people better as having so many negative opinions about her from so many shows a lack of people skills. That seemed to be the main factor in his decision as Trump decided to fire Liza. So the final two is Clint and Brandy.

The finale task for this season is that the candidates could choose to run a gold tournament featuring Kathy Griffin or they could choose to run a dinner gala followed by concert featuring Liza Minnelli. There was an interesting twist to the task and team helper selection process. In most seasons the candidates chose people one by one. This time the returning contestants were already bunched up in a trio that consisted of Anand, Stephanie and Liza while the other one was Mahsa, Poppy and Steuart. So essentially they would have to choose teams based on the group.

Since Brandy was part of the winning team last time Trump told her that she could choose to have first pick on her teammates or the task. Brandy felt the team was more important and so she picked Anand, Stephanie and Liza which left the others with Clint. That meant Clint had the choice of choosing the task and he decided to go with the dinner gala as he mentioned that he wanted to show Trump that he could do anything as you wouldn’t normally expect him to do a task like this. Of course, that meant the golf tournament was Brandy’s responsibility. There was an interesting fact brought out too that apparently Liza was a good golf player.

For Brandy she seemed to rely on Liza’s expertise a lot since she is a golf player and Clint relied on Steuart as he mentioned d that he has done catering a lot when he was younger. Aside from running around and handling responsibilities, it seemed that both teams have some interesting obstacles. For Brandy she tried to determine what would be good prizes to give to the golfers that were attending. Since most of them are wealthy the assumption was getting them items like gold clubs would not be too exciting. Therefore, she decided to offer gift certificates as prizes.

However, when it came to buying them Liza decided for herself that something tangible that you could walk away with would be better and so she decided to buy items like $500 golf club sets as prizes instead of the gift certificates despite the instructions that were given to her. This created a lot of arguments when Brandy found out. Another twist came about where Brandy asked Trump who he would like to play golf with at the event and he specifically said Liza. Instead of denying him she agreed.

Therefore, at this point it seems like Brandy will lose her most knowledgeable golf expert when the actual event commences.
Another error this team had was that they wanted to hire a photographer to take pictures for the event. However, the photographer was apparently only told to go to the Trump National Golf Club. While he was supposed to go to the one in Westchester he was at the one at Bedminster since he was used to going there when he is called.

For Clint everything appeared to be going well until the catering company bailed on him. Therefore, Steuart had to work around the clock to find a catering company at such short notice. Fortunately, with much perseverance he was successful. The biggest obstacle came at the end of episode as it was revealed that every poster and table card that was printed for the event had spelling errors when it came to Liza Minnelli’s name.

Mahsa was then saying this is all Clint’s fault as it was his job to double check everything before printing it. Despite this she worked work with Poppy to try and find a solution without having to Worry Clint. They contacted the printer who said that they could print new ones. However, it came down to money as they already blew through their printing budget mostly. Therefore, they had no choice but to contact Clint to see what he wanted to do. The episode then ended there.

This season is going by really for it feels like. Seems shorter than usual for some odd reason. Maybe it’s because there wasn’t as much drama overall so far as I am so used to watching the celebrity versions.

Celebrity Apprentice – Episode 12

Right from the get go the episode continued off from last week where it was announced that two more people would be fired with some type of task that would take place immediately. It turns out that the task was an interview process where Donald Trump had two business reporter guests being Jim Kramer from mad money and Erin Burnett from CNBC.

Overall, it looked like the interviewers preferred Trace Adkins and Carol Alt. They didn’t seem to like Piers Morgan’s aggressive personality and Lennox Lewis didn’t seem as confident through the process. One thing that I thought was kind of funny was how Jim Kramer always seemed like he has too much energy or something as he would talk super fast paced while over emphasizing his points. Guessing that is just the way he is though.

This was one of the goofiest boardroom deliberations I have seen. In the beginning it was pretty apparent that Lennox Lewis had one of the weaker performances and so he was the first one to be fired. It then came down to Carol Alt, Piers Morgan and Trace Adkins. The ultimate deciding factor on the final two was that Donald Trump wanted to establish this “Good VS Evil” type of battle between Trace Adkins VS Piers Morgan as he wanted to see them go at it and believed that they disliked each other enough that it would create a great rivalry. That was ultimately the reason Carol Alt was fired. This was definitely more entertainment oriented than business. Funny nonetheless.

The final task was that a large charity event will be held and the tasks would be divided into different aspects that the teams would have to negotiate with each other in doing. Four past contestants were invited back to the show to help in the final tasks where the two project manager would get to choose their teammates. Trace Adkins chose Lennox Lewis and Marilu Henner while Piers Morgan chose Stephen Baldwin and Carol Alt. Ultimately, Trace Adkins would be responsible for the events décor while working with the entertainment aspects of the event where the special guest artist was the Backstreet Boys. Piers Morgan was responsible for catering services while producing a live auctioning event.

There was this one hilarious moment where like most celebrities they have a list of demands in terms of items and accommodations whenever they attend an event.

Trace Adkins thought that some of them were redundant and so he decided to talk to the Backstreet Boys about it. There was such a generation gap between himself and them I thought as during their conversation one of the backstreet boys member talked about wheatgrass and Trace Adkins had a deer in a headlight expression. Here is a brief clip of it:

In the end, it looked like Trace Adkins biggest obstacle is being able to cater to the Backstreet boys to their satisfaction while Piers Morgan may not be able to draw as many celebrities to the event compared to Trace.
