Think Big And Kick Ass In Business And Life - Chapter 7

Monday, January 7th, 2008 by Alan Yu

“Big Mo!” was the chapter title and it was a fairly good read I thought. It revolved around how momentum can either bring you vast success or extreme consequences in life.

He talks about a person named William Levitt who made it big building houses post world war II era who then sold his company for a lot of money. Years later of mostly living life, the company he sold was doing bad and he decided to re-purchase it as he wanted to get back into the industry. However, he didn’t achieve the same success and instead ended up losing everything with the main reason being that he loss momentum.

Trump then talks about how every little thing you do builds momentum and that it is really important for beginners to keep at it. At the same time, in general he emphasized how once you have it you have to keep doing something to continually move it or else you will lose it. That is so true I thought as many times people simply ride off the success of the past only to then wonder why everything crashed all of a sudden.

Afterwards, he dived into how you should deal with adversities in life and to use these incidents to make yourself strong. There was another topic about momentum about how when you have momentum everyone wants to be a part of it. Zanker had a story on how since his business uses motivational speakers and so fourth, with the success of that “Secret” DVD he started to capitalize on that by getting speakers from there to appear in his seminars which in hence gave his business a lot of attention.

Think Big And Kick Ass In Business And Life - Chapter 4

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008 by Alan Yu

“Creating Luck” was the subject this time around. Trump basically just divulged into how some people believe you are born lucky while others say you create it. He then quoted a phrase that I have heard before where a famous golf player named Gary Player once had a spectacular finish on a golf course and when he was told that he was so lucky he replied with the phrase “The harder I work, the luckier I get”.

He then talked about the power of positive thinking and how it can create a lot of success for you. At the same time, he mentions the importance of factoring in negative thinking as well because like most things in life you need balance. Overall though, the message seemed to be more about not dwelling on circumstances and to guide your way through life and all its unexpected challenges.

Bill Zanker had an interesting story where he had a marketing stunt to throw $10,000 worth of money off the Empire State Building which caught the attention of the media and sure enough loads of people went to surround the building during the day of the event. The funny thing was there were two people who were oblivious to this and decided to rob the bank in the building that same day.

As you may have presumed, they ran out of the bank with bags of money and were immediately greeted by a load of media and bystanders. He never did get to throw the money apparently, but there was a big enough spectacle that he got a lot of publicity over it which still accomplished the original goal. That sure is an example of good luck and bad luck huh?

Think Big And Kick Ass In Business And Life - Introduction

Saturday, December 29th, 2007 by Alan Yu

So I decided that I am going to start reading the book “Think Big and Kick Ass In Business and Life” that I received back when I attended that learning annex event as you all may recall. It’s been awhile since I blogged about a book too, so I figured the timing is appropriate.

The authors of the book are Donald Trump and Bill Zanker who is the founder of The Learning Annex. Not really sure what to expect personally, but as usual learning from other people’s experiences can be a great way to help you achieve more.

The Introduction mostly focused on Zanker and how he built the Learning Annex from a measly $5000 in funds. After meeting and acquiring Donald Trump’s services while incorporating his way of thinking, he mentions that his business has been booming ever since.

The interesting detail for me was how Zanker mentioned that at first he couldn’t get through Trump’s secretary as his pitch to get Trump to speak at his event for one day was $10,000 which was immediately disregarded. He then mentioned how he remembered a saying from Tony Robbins on how if one wants to make it big in life that you have to push yourself beyond your limitations to a point of extreme adrenaline. As a result, he went crazy and told Trump’s secretary that he would offer Trump one million dollars to speak at an event for a day. Evidently, Trump responded to him personally in regards to that afterwards and the rest is history.

I guess that answers one of my questions before where I was wondering how much Trump got paid to speak at those events. That’s definitely a very interesting example of risk taking in life too.
