So I had a pretty tight schedule this week and a person contacted me about a potential opportunity to be involved in some ad campaign that would be fairly lucrative. The thing is, he confirmed that I would attend to the event as he assumed I would say yes anyways.
Of course I had pre-arrangements already made and so time wise it wasn’t doable. I then asked why he did that and he simply mentioned that it was potentially worth over $10,000 and so he thought there was no way anyone would turn that down.
Thing is too, this was like of those out of your hands as it was more like an audition or quick interview of some sort where you go through a process and then it is up to a panel of say “judges” who decide your fate. That wasn’t exactly a guarantee thing either as it is just an “opportunity”.
While you obviously need to take risks to a certain extent, it’s kind of silly if you had say two loyal clients that you committed to and then simply throw that away for a potential opportunity to be involved in what can be a more lucrative project.

Today I had to rent this specialized microphone for $8 a day which wasn’t exactly expensive and would give the sound quality that was needed for a recording. Now the thing is too all I needed it for was the end of Friday.
Interestingly enough, the business hours are until 6pm which means you have to keep it for at least another day to be able to return it. Reasonable I guess. But then, apparently they don’t open on the weekends at all which means you have to keep paying for it until Monday when you can finally return it.
That is a first I have seen this personally.

There was this report I was watching on how some people are already trying to find the right Christmas gifts for their kids and that stores are already pre-telling customers what they think the hot items are. As a result, there are apparently a lot of people buying those items.
For myself, I usually don’t pay too much attention to top ten lists if it was published from say the retailer themselves as most likely they are trying to bundle up items that while may be good, it usually means a lot of profit too.
I usually trust consumer reviews personally as I guess the opinions are usually a bit more genuine and not to mention it will help you save money as oppose to buying purely on some hype.

I was just researching about various add-ons for a camcorder to allow better shooting in say very bright settings and looking at the prices for these add-ons and accessories was kind of amazing. They almost cost a much as the camcorder itself in some cases such as buying different lens.
In some ways I’m not too surprised as accessories are usually marked up like crazy as a way to generate revenue from selling the main product with a very low profit margin. One thing that I usually try to do if I don’t know anyone that specifically specializes in the field to know how much the item is marked up by is to try and find wholesale price lists.
Usually they are meant for companies wanting to buy products to resell, but from a consumer point of view is often gives you a very good idea in terms of trying to find a good bargain. Example, if you were looking to buy a cord of some kind that was $10 and you see from a wholesaler that they sell twenty for $10, then at least you know most likely there is a better deal to be had.

Recently I was looking for some volunteer help for a fun project and a person I knew seemed very motivated to try and help. It seemed like he was really going above and beyond and I commented on how I was in his debt now as a way of implying if he ever needed any help I would equally go above and beyond as well.
Now when I thought about it, usually what people do to pay back others in these cases is by using something of monetary value such as treating them to dinner. So that was actually my first reaction as you often feel it is necessary to compensate people back in some financial way to help warrant their time.
In the end, he told me to pay him back by making sure I attend this reunion event. Err….still feels like I owe something still.
