Climate Action Dividend Payment

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008 by Alan Yu

Well look what I got in the mail today. It was the $100 climate action dividend credit that I talked about awhile ago. This was the cheque which also came with some information about the payment in general:

Climate Action Dividend Cheque

As well, inside the envelope was this small brochure that talked about various ways on the thing you can do to be more environmentally friendly as well as saving money as seen here:

Not really sure what I would do with this though honestly as to me this money helps to raise awareness as oppose to convincing people to spend it as intended I’d say. I think I will just throw it into the journey fund. I guess I will label payments like these as free money and credits.

Stock Investment: $800
Blog Web Publishing: $444.57
Million Dollar Term: $100
Affiliate Sales: $91.01
Free Money and Credits: $100

Total: $1535.58

Clearance Sale Signs As A Gimmick

Saturday, June 21st, 2008 by Alan Yu

Today I was at the mall and saw this one store that had a limited time clearance sign plastered everywhere. It was almost as if the company had to simply liquidate everything. I did go into the store as I was thinking of buying a rolling backpack and figured that it would be a good chance to get a good deal.

At first my impression of the sale was very good as they had stacks of items outside the store such as wallets for $5 and a lot of the bags had these 70% off indicators on them. I then noticed something funny as I walked around there.

In the background they had this lopping recorded speech to inform visitors about the great limited time clearance sale on all the products such as the backpacks in the store. The funny thing was that as part of the speech it mentioned how this was a fantastic father’s day sale that shouldn’t be missed. As you know, Father’s day is already over.

I figured that maybe it was just a week long event as a result. Afterwards, one of the worker asked me if I needed any help and proceeded to tell me about the different rolling backpacks there were. He then mentioned about the price and how compared to other stores it is about $3 cheaper than any of the competition in the mall.

That just made me think how it wasn’t really a clearance sale at all in terms of what you would normally expect. Especially with signs indicating that the products were 70% off the original price. That kind of turned me off from purchasing anything. That was definitely an example I thought on how you can’t always just go by those signs to tell you if you are getting a good deal or not.

Thinking About Money Issues Later

Thursday, June 19th, 2008 by Alan Yu

I was talking to a person who mentioned that he recently moved from a different province. Instead of finding a job in his field of expertise, he is taking the risk and doing a job in a role that is a on the call basis as it dealt with special events that only occurred depending on situations such as entertainment productions that come to town.

First thing that came into my mind was how he planned to survive financially as that seemed like a rather unstable situation for an adult. He told me that it didn’t really matter to him as he is still getting by and that he will worry about the money part later as he expects that to come naturally from being persistent and doing something he enjoyed.

That’s kind of tricky I thought as that mentality is fantastic if you are say starting some kind of venture and you know that you have X amount funds to live on to do so. If it comes to a situation of basic survival though, I’d tend to lean towards not doing so unless you have some kind of nest in place.

It’s good to take risks as that is usually necessary to achieve better rewards, but at the same time this is one of those money situations where you shouldn’t just take risks but rather calculated risks I’d say.

Trying To Make Posts With A Regular Cell Phone

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008 by Alan Yu

I was fairly busy today and thought that I would try and write a blog post using my cell phone while I was out. I must say, it is a rather tedious process not only from trying to type out sentences in general, but just trying to login to the blog itself is challenging. For example, my phone tends to put the first letter you type in capitals which in hence would cause case sensitive data to not work properly.

It was a noble thought though of not having to buy a more expensive data phone to do this. Although, in the end the battery on the phone was weak and so I guess it was meant to be that I shouldn’t even attempt it. I wonder if there are any other alternatives to a data phone.

Paying For A Robotic Girlfriend

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008 by Alan Yu

In some more bizarre news, I just read this article about some robot that is going to target lonely men in the world. Created by Sega toys in Japan, the “EMA”, Eternal Maiden Actualization, is some kind of small robotic toy that will retail for about $175 and will basically act like one’s girlfriend of sort. For example, it can kiss on demand as well as sing and hand out business cards. Here is a video about it:

Is this for real? I was really interested in the analysis on this as the report kind of implied that the makers believed there is a demand for something like this and would target men over 20. This is one of those things where I just have to sit there and wonder why if you were really in that state of mind that you just don’t go out into the real world and find a mate.

Now watch me get all these e-mails from supporters on how this will save people money from having to pay for say dating sites or is a better value than spending money on like going to the movies.
