This was all over the news here today where it seemed like the president of Target Canada got fired as a result of the business not doing very well here. Apparently the business lost over a billion dollars. Most of the reports seemed to focus on the notion that store shelves were constantly empty which of course means no sales.
I was thinking of my own experience going into a Target store and I personally haven’t seen this as an issue. I think what hurt them the most was the hype on how it would have extremely competitive prices based on its US reputation. I even have a friend in the US who is probably their biggest fan and was constantly telling me how much I would love that store once it launches in Canada.
Speaking for myself, I don’t see that big of a difference minus the occasional crazy sale prices which can happen anywhere. The only thing I have seen that they consistently seem to have prices that are cheaper than other people are items like cereal. Unfortunately too, in my mind at the moment if they don’t offer something unique then there are high chances that I would usually try to buy everything from the supermarkets if the prices are virtually the same.
One thing is for sure, since they took over the old Zeller stores here the staff seems to actually be happy.
