Sometimes Keeping Old Stuff Is Good

February 27th, 2014 by

So today I got to open my new all-in-one printer and I was definitely anticipating this thing to be slightly bigger than my old laser printer. I didn’t realize is was going to be that much heavier though where it seemed like putting this printer on the top shelf of the desk didn’t seem like a wise idea. I then remembered that I kept an old small rolling desk that I never used anymore but kept it anyways. As it turns out, it sites nicely next to my current computer desk and as a result of keeping this I don’t need to buy any new office furniture.

It just got me thinking as in many cases it usually is just better off to sell things that you have no intentions of using anymore due to the clutter it creates. Or in some cases people paying money for outside storage services for their stuff because they want to keep it just incase they do need it. Like in that scenario it’s essentially a financial burden.

I think for myself I would keep it if I feel it can potentially be useful in the future and as long as it doesn’t get in the way. Example, if it is going to sit in the attic or garage then no real harm done. But if you are trying to cram it into like the kitchen for the sake of making storage room for it then in those cases I would think it’s better off to just sell it. Keeping old stuff can save money, but at the same time you just don’t want to be a hoarder.
