So today a person was telling me how Amazon.com was trying to implement a new Drone technology where it will essentially analyze the behaviour and patterns of a shopper in order to predict what they will buy. This is based on things such as how often a person checks for a particular item. With this information the company then apparently anticipates that you will buy it and therefore will immediately ship it to a warehouse near you.
The interesting thing about this was she was telling me how if the item remains at the warehouse and no one ends up buying it they may simply just give it to the person for free as it will cost the company more money to move that item around. That’s kind of a crazy thought if you think about it. She was saying how this may encourage people to create things like a wishlist if the company simply wants to just dump the item after.
Kind of a scary thought in some ways on how companies are going to try and get as much personal information and details about its customers. At the same time, I guess it’s kind of an interesting way to potentially get better discounts and deals based on your own shopping habits. I know the local supermarket here already tried to do something like this except with the use of a points card as an example.
