Boxing Day Shopping

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007 by Alan Yu

Today is supposed to be the day that everyone can save a lot of money shopping and sure enough the malls were packed. The funny thing this year was that a lot of items I saw seemed like something that other people would want and so I just kept sending out text messages to friends and family members on whether or not they wanted me to get that item for them.

Similarly, I was getting messages and calls from others as well. I just stuck to my pre-planned shopping intentions though which was to buy some memory for my new phone as well as a larger SD card for my camera. Otherwise you don’t really save money if you bought something you didn’t really need in the first place. In the end, I got hat I wanted and saved about $80.

Last Day of Christmas Shopping

Monday, December 24th, 2007 by Alan Yu

Well, today is the last day of Christmas shopping and it looks like I will have to make one last trip to the mall in an attempt to hunt down some items. At the same time I will be trying to donate my knowledge to help some family members choose gifts that require some technical knowledge.

And I thought I was going to be able to avoid the fury of the last minute shopping crowd. It sure won’t help the fact a lot of companies actually release their boxing day sales starting today too in order to draw in all that last minute crowd. As long as I don’t lose my head and arms in the process I’ll still be able to blog at least.

Dinners Instead of Presents

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007 by Alan Yu

For a lot of people that I know, instead of buying friends and family members presents during the holiday they simply invite everyone to a restaurant and pay for everyone’s meal. That way, they avoid having to go through all that shopping frenzy while still accomplishing the goal of doing something nice for people.

It might sound little silly, but I am usually a bit conscience on what I order in these cases as I don’t want to rack up the bill for the person who is paying. Just like the other day where the person kept asking if I wanted to order anything to drink and I just insisted that water was fine. Similar to receiving gifts, I tend to not want people to spend too much financially on myself as you don’t need expensive things to make people happy.

When Bloggers Video Speed Date

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007 by Alan Yu

I was sent this video which I thought was funny. Apparently there is this speed dating service online located at SpeedDate.com that uses video conferencing to hopefully find people matches. They teamed up with Meebo, which creates instant messaging software, to gather a group of bloggers to participate in a video speed dating session. And here is a brief video of the event:

That one part where that female blogger was cornering the male blogger on whether or not he thought he was a geek…… Having that being recorded and archived forever didn’t help the male pride too much huh? Makes you wonder how long until this type of thing will become an extremely profitable online business.
